The project was implemented by Érmellék Centrum Community Nonprofit Ltd. from Hungary and D § D Group Invest s.r.o., a small company in the warehouse industry from Slovakia.

The investment project is part of an action plan aimed at reducing unemployment and creating new jobs in the north-eastern region of the Hungarian-Slovak border region. The action plan also aimed at developing the local economy. The basic resource of the cooperation is industrial hemp, a crop with a long tradition which can be grown efficiently and in accordance with ecological principles. Industrial hemp is modern, competitive, in growing demand and has a wide range of uses in many industries, such as food, cosmetics, textiles, construction and health.

A 750 m2 factory hall was built in Barabás, where machines for processing industrial hemp chaff were installed. Once operational, the machines will be able to produce hemp fibre and industrial hemp-based building materials. The production plant will provide jobs for 8 people.

Located in the industrial district of the city of Kassa, the 4-storey building will house a complete sewing factory after a complete reconstruction. The workshop produces household textiles, bed linen and curtains. The plant will employ 4 people.

In Barabás, the industrial hall that was built as an investment of the territorial action plan implemented in the framework of the Interreg Slovakia-Hungary program entitled “The Future in Hemp” was handed over in a ceremonial setting.
